Since my beloved mother passed away in the autumn of 2022, movement has become an integral part of my daily routine. There are the cherished moments of taking our lovable doodle for two daily walks, but there's also the dedicated 30 to 60 minutes of solo movement. It's during these times that I reflect on my mother's memory, contemplate how I'm showing up for myself and others, and consider how I can extend an invitation for others to honor and embrace their grief.
During one of my solitary strolls through town, I stumbled upon a hidden gem—a quaint garden nestled snugly between two craftsman homes. At its heart sits a weathered wooden bench, gently embraced by lush greenery and scattered fallen leaves, creating an oasis of tranquility amidst the bustling streets. It's a serene outdoor sanctuary, offering the perfect refuge for moments of quiet contemplation.
In capturing the essence of this serene scene, I couldn't help but notice the subtle imperfections that add to its charm. The bench, weathered and worn, bears the marks of time and use, yet it's adorned with beautiful leaves that weave through its cracks—a poignant reminder of the natural cycles of life and growth.
This memorial garden is more than just a picturesque spot—it's a testament to the enduring power of love and remembrance. It's one of the many treasures I hold dear about California, a place where beauty and solace can be found in the most unexpected corners.
